SoftAid – Advert
Rod Cousens mobilised the video game industry in response to Bob Geldof’s Band Aid appeal in 1985. The result, SoftAid, pulled on Rod’s connections within the industry and put out a pocket money priced compilation that would tempt impulse buyers as well as providing some satisfaction towards a good cause. Ian Stewart and Gremlin supported Rod, SoftAid and his follow-on campaigns with the first charity-produced game and donated games.
The hard-hitting artwork was provided by Quicksilva stalwart David Rowe, and incurred a band from WHSmiths who insisted on a covering sticker to protect its sensitive customer base.
